Plugin Description

Painlessly create menus to display your Product Documentation!

While you can gain a lot of flexibility in how your products are displayed with WooCommerce extensions, your product documents never had a home until now. Using the WooCommerce Product Documents extension, you can now easily create accordion-style menus to display product information for customers. Want to publish sample chapters or images from your ebook? No problem! Need to display technical specifications or assembly instructions? Product Documents makes displaying these easy and has a front-end display that looks professional and is intuitive for customers to navigate.

Easily add documents to your short product descriptions, or use shortcodes or widgets to display documents anywhere on your site! Or, use the shortcodes to share documentation among several products. Works great with the WooCommerce Tab Manager extension to display documents in a custom tab!

  1. Nick

    Question

Can I bulk import product documents via Mysql columns or CSV import? We have 8k skus, so very difficult to apply documents product by product.

Hey Nick, I’m afraid this isn’t straight forward as not many importers support importing serialized meta. Here’s the meta set for each product when using Product Documents — this could be set via custom script, or if you wanted to do an import, my best recommendation would be to (a) try to set up a few template products, (b) export these with something like the official Product CSV Import / Export plugin, which can include all meta, (c) copy and paste the meta to other products that use it.

If this isn’t possible (your products all use different discrete documents, so you can’t do any copying), your best bet would be to have a developer build a custom script to set that meta for each product.

Hi Jason, I’m afraid that there are no bulk options for managing documents at present. Sorry I don’t have better news for you here!

  3. Spencer

    Question

Do you need the Tab manager for this to work?

    • Beka Rice

Hey Spencer! Tab Manager is definitely not required; you can add documents directly to the product page above the ‘add to cart’ button, or you can add them via widget or shortcode. (You can see more details here.) Tab Manager is helpful if you wanted to show these documents in a new product tab, but it’s not required for display 🙂

  4. Andy

    Question

For only uploading a single document, is there a way I can transform the dropdown in to a button in-line with the add-to-cart button already on the page?

    • Beka Rice

Hey Andy! I’m afraid there aren’t settings / easy changes to make that would move this from the “section / links” set up to a button. Sorry I don’t have better news for you!

With that said, if you work with a developer, they could unhook our template that generates documents, and re-purpose the code there to turn it into a button, just not something that’s simple to do without customization.

  5. Angela

    Question

Is there a way to add a photo link to the documentation to be clicked on instead of a text link?

    • Beka Rice

Hey Angela, I’m afraid the plugin doesn’t currently have a way to change the link text to an image.

    Question

Is it possible to have thumbnails/images for each document?

    • Beka Rice

Hey Brandon, not quite sure what you mean — are you looking for something like a file type icon? Since documents could be any file type, it’s very unlikely we’d show a document preview or image associated with them.

  7. Andy

    Question

It should be noted that if you use variations it does not seem possible to have a product document for each variation. Is this something that could possibly be added in the feature?

Thanks for the reply Beka, I only read the landing page. Let that be a lesson to me to read everything first. 🙂 Please keep up the great work at Skyverge. Yours was one of a few sites that have been instrumental in getting our site up and running.

Hey Andy, we try to note that in the documentation — were you looking elsewhere for this? Happy to add elsewhere 🙂

This hasn’t been too popular of a request thus far, but happy to add your vote for it on our internal idea board and let you know if it makes it onto the plugin roadmap.
