Click-and-collect, in which shoppers purchase online and pick up in store or curbside, was already growing prior to the pandemic. But in 2020, with many stores forced to shut their doors or operate at limited capacity due to COVID-19, growth in local pickup exploded. In the U.S., 2/3rds of shoppers tried buy online, pick up in store options last year.

What’s more: click-and-collect is something shoppers want to continue using, even as we put the pandemic behind us. So it’s important for eCommerce stores to think about ways to offer local pickup options, including stores without a brick-and-mortar presence (e.g., by partnering with others on pickup locations).
